Nancy Laney Ph.D.
Nancy E. Laney received her Ph.D. in counseling psychology from Temple University in 1997. Her doctoral dissertation focused on assessment of competency to stand trial. She has extensive experience in forensic evaluation which she gained from her pre-doctoral clinical psychology internship training at the U.S. Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Prisons, Federal
Correctional Institution in Butner, NC. For over 20 years, she was a senior psychologist at Dorothea Dix Hospital in Raleigh, NC and at Central Regional Hospital in Butner, NC, and held an adjunct assistant professor appointment in the Department of Psychiatry, School of Medicine, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has trained and mentored many early career
professionals, served on various healthcare committees and boards, and was the President of both the North Carolina Psychological Association and the North Carolina Psychological Foundation. She has provided expert witness testimony for matters including competency to stand trial, mental state at the time of the offense, and workers compensation litigation. Dr. Laney is currently licensed in North Carolina and holds the PSYPACT credential.
